Excuses, excuses...Submitted by tom on 28 July, 2006 - 4:32pm.Blog
Hello, yes, hmmm. The Footage here. I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank… No? Oh, OK then. Well, can I at least...?... Yes, yes, very quickly. Well, welcome to the site, lovers of music, words and Footage band members. Medium- to long-term followers will have noticed a dearth of gigs, commentary and general back-slapping camaraderie of late. For this I’ve conceived many excuses, all of which are linked, in some fashion or another, to the much maligned sloth. The clingy, black-eyed tree dweller is quite the talker, I’ll have you know. Hark back to the last gig The Footage delivered in Farringdon – no, not the drunken Electroacoustic Club farce, I thought we’d resolved never to mention that incident again. We had finished our set, to rapturous applause, and were just on our way to order a tipple or three from the good man at the bar, when – lo and by gad – we were confronted by the sloth. By this time, the sloth had plainly enjoyed a number of Trenchtown Shandys and become garrulous to the point of chatty. Well, the creature got to talkin’ ’bout his homeland (Newington Green), his favourite musicians (Eno, Wyatt), his favourite album (Song Cycle), and much, much more besides. So, ************************************** as they write in the books, there we are, two months later and, more importantly, 60 lock-ins later, having done not a single gig or practice in the meanslice, still on the receiving end of a slothful earful. Well, naturally we shot out of there quick-smart – and I mean straight outta there - I up here, logging on to this here ‘puter ASAP and writing to all you fellas back home, worried blind sick I don’t doubt, religiously watching Crimewatch for any mention of The Footage’s whereaboutses. I’m here to tell you that you may breathe at last. Breathe, damn it! We’re back. Well, OK, not back gigging. Not yet. We’ve got to rehearse first. But the exciting news is we’ll be back full force, fully electric and fully... yeah!, with Kimon downsizing rather drastically to single bass, and shaker/jingle ring boy Stooster taking his rightful place behind snare, high-hat, Shortround and all his other lil’ pals. Expect us to be making our next appearances in London in September and October of the year 2006. This year, for you people. I for one am almost purple with excitement. I hope you are too. login to post comments
